Education| K-12 Edition

The new education program in the Philippines, K-12 Education .  “K” means Kindergarten and the 12 years is of elementary and secondary education. The Grade 6 students who graduated 2012 will be the first ones to take the K-12 Education. The two years of senior high school intend to provide time for students to consolidate acquired academic skills and competencies, 2 years of in-depth specialization for students depending on the occupation/career track they wish to pursue. Why add two more years? To decongest and enhance the basic education curriculum, To provide better quality education for all, The Philippines is the only remaining country in Asia with a 10-year basic education program, K to 12 is not new. The proposal to expand the basic education dates back to 1925. This proposal is part of P-noy's Educational Reform Program.
In this case, implementing the K-12 Education is an advantage for the students. Abroad, Filipinos are questioned with their studies because they are saying that they lack 2 years of education and in that way Filipinos are having complications in finding jobs, now with the K -12 Education it will facilitate mutual recognition of Filipino graduates and professionals in other countries. In our society K-12 will facilitate an accelerated economic growth, a better educated society provides a sound foundation for long-term socio-economic development,  the Philippine educational system pursues the achievement of excellent undergraduates in the elementary and secondary level. Implementation of UBD is one of the proposals that undertook in the country recently. At present, the Department of Education pronounces the addition of two more years in the basic education of students, which according to them will benefit not only the Filipino youth but all the Filipinos in the Philippines. Several studies have shown that the improvements in the quality of education will increase GDP growth by as much as 2%. Studies in the UK, India and US show that additional years of schooling also have positive overall impact on society.
While the reaction of the public is divided, where some are in favor and some are not, here are several issues that point out to the aggression of opposing groups especially the parents to this program, but it will be a great advantage if the children will experience the K-12 Education for them to find jobs abroad more easier.
After the K-12 Education students may have the options if they will take college or choose to work already. If the students wants to be professionals they must take college and choose what course they will take, if students doesn’t want to take college they may already work. There are a lot to be done to improve the competency of the youth. The government does not need to gaze from afar.
As a Grade 7 student, I have the honor to be one of the lucky students who will be the first Grades 7-12, so I will not waste this opportunity.
